David Azrieli: Do What You Love To Do. The dream of making a contribution to our homeland, Eretz Yisrael. Azrieli Center: “the happiest day of my life.” 14th of Elul, 5774 - already 2 months after the death of Mr David Azrieli, one of my role models in business and life. A devoted Zionist, philantropist, visionary builder, developer and businessman, community leader. “Genuine freedom is being able to do what you love to do. If you have to spend your life doing things you don’t love to do, you are no better than a slave. This then, is my message: do what you love to do.” - Mr David Azrieli Being yesterday at the Azrielis offices, I just remembered my first meeting with Mr David Azrieli - a moment which I was blessed listening from himself, about his dream and his touching life story. Mr Azrieli and I, we share the same dream: the dream of making a contribution to our homeland, Israel. While he has already fulfilled our shared dream, Im still on the road with confidence that one day... 75 years ago - in September 1939, when he was 17 years old, Mr Azrieli escaped the Nazi occupation of his hometown in Poland by moving eastward into Soviet-occupied Poland. 3 years after, he made contact with Moshe Dayan and Enzo Sereni and was recruited to work for the Zionist cause. One day in 1943, the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology) accepted Mr David Azrieli, the 21, into its architecture studies program. Though he would become Israel’s most successful real-estate tycoon and build the Tel Aviv Azrieli Center, which has become the iconic image of modern-day Israel, he calls it: “The Happiest Day Of My Life.” I wish to share with you the gift I get it from Mr David Azrieli, a motto that I keep in mind all the time and directs me in everything I do: “I believe that successful people should give back to the community. When I say give back to the community it is not only money, it is also time and involvement. You must give with your heart and in such a way that one believes it is going to make a difference.” Each of us is a successful person, each of us has his own different success. As we are in the month Elul, a time of reconciliation and goodwill, lets start Doing What We Love To Do&Making A Contribution To Our Beloved Homeland - Eretz Yisrael. Lets start with small acts of kindness, sometimes really simple acts, can actually make the biggest impact, can make a difference. Each of us can make a difference. May the New Year bless all of us with The Happiest Day Of Our Life. *I must confess that for me the happiest day of my life will be, with Gods help, the day of becoming one. ;) Shana Tova to the great family Azrieli, to Mrs Stephanie, Mrs Danna, Mrs Sharon, Mrs Neomi, Mr Rafael and to all the grandchildren. Mr David Azrieli is truly missed by all of us which loved him so dearly. Happy New Year!
