David Conway Yesterday at 9:39am . Bill Longworth recently asked for residents to sigh a petition to object to the wording of the vote on the ward system. So, Bill, if you are reading this, I would like to offer another suggestion for you to consider. We should petition the Minister of Municipal Affairs to make an exception in this years election and allow Oshawa voters to elect the mayor and councillors for a one year term ending on November 30, 2015. Then, assuming that the voters approve the ward system, have an election in October 2015 for a three year term under the ward system. The term would end on November 30, 2018 to coincide with all other Ontario municipal elections. The wards are already in place so that should not be an issue. We cant afford to have another four years of councillors elected under the at-large system but we might be able to handle it for one year knowing that changes are in the air. My concern about the objection is that it could cause the City to postpone the question until the next election in 2018 which would mean we wont get the ward system until 2022.
