Day 13 - A tough day. The temperature spikes to 130 degrees and Richard can feel the hot air radiating from the macadam. The up hill battles strain every muscle in his body as he pedals his weighted bike over the top, he thinks maybe the extra 10-20 pounds of water he carries wasnt worth all the effort. His goal is to reach Ely, a town 78 miles away, but the endless road, the heat, the sun that has burnt his skin, the next mountain (elevation 8,000), and the boring landscape of sand, sand, sand tests his resolve. A cry goes out and his friends, family, strangers send Richard their support and encouragement. Richard continues toward his goal, even as night falls, his tenacity moves him forward. Late into the night, he coasts into Ely, the battle won, the warrior exhausted.
