Day 16. Praying & fasting 2014. Prayer We become more persuaded about the precedents and promises of the scriptures. Rom 15:4; Judges 3:31; Daniel 6:22-23. PONDER ON THESE THOUGHTS A precedent is an example of a situation that serves as a rule to justify subsequent occurrence of the same act. When you deal with an uncommon problem or an issue with an intimidating history. At such moments, you require superior precedent to contain the pressure from the frightening antecedents of the challenge. A precedent works for good or bad. The voice of precedence says, As it happened to......, same will happen to you. If it happened once, it will happen again. This rule works for good or bad. God employs the rule of precedents throughout the Bible to fulfill His plan and purposes in our lives. Strangely, the devil enforces his agenda with the same rule of established examples. Plainly, without the rule of an example , it will be impossible to walk in faith or fear. Romans 15:4 (Message Bible) Even if it was written in Scripture long ago, you can be sure its written for us. God wants the combination of his steady, constant calling and warm, personal counsel in Scripture to come to characterize us, keeping us alert for whatever he will do next. The precedents established in the scriptures, gives us a clue on what to expect from God in our time of need. More importantly, these examples stir up hope and comfort in our hearts. And also persuading our hearts about the faithfulness and consistency of God. In Joshua 1:5. the Lord used the tool of precedents to communicate His faithfulness to Joshua. He said to Joshua, All your life, no one will be able to hold out against you. In the same way I was with Moses, I will be with you. I will not give up on you; I wont leave you. (Message Bible) God is saying to us now, become persuaded about the precedence of my faithfulness towards Moses and the other saints. Their testimonies are clues on what to expect from me. It will be the same treatment. This way, you can override the effects of any bad experience, with confidence. In 2 Kings 18:32-35, the Devil working through Sennecheribs aide, was using the rule of examples to discourage the Israelites. He recognized that without persuasive examples it will be difficult to make the people believe a lie. The Devil repeats the same pattern in our hearts, any time we face a challenge. Sennecheribs aide said to the Israelites, “Don’t listen to Hezekiah when he tries to mislead you by saying, ‘The LORD will rescue us!’ Have the gods of any other nations ever saved their people from the king of Assyria? What happened to the gods of Hamath and Arpad? And what about the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah? Did any god rescue Samaria from my power? What god of any nation has ever been able to save its people from my power? So what makes you think that the LORD can rescue Jerusalem from me?” (New living translation ) Faith is stirred up in your heart, any time you believe the established precedence of victories in the scriptures. Furthermore, you must see your situation from the position of the precedents of victories in the scriptures. They are powerful tools for inspiring courage in your heart when you face uncommon problems. The challenge, can be a health condition that is considered terminal, or you are facing a financial issue or a relationship problem. David was able to contend and defeat Goliath with the rule of precedence. 1 Samuel 17:37 Moreover David said, “The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “ Go, and the Lord be with you!” David was saying, to King Saul, I am going to feed my heart with the faithfulness of God towards me in the past. The Lord is unchanging in His nature . In other words, the same way God prevailed over the Lion and the Bear, the same He will defeat Goliath. You cannot afford to ignore the rule precedent. So tell your self, I am going to see my present challenge, in the light of my previous victories and the precedents in the scriptures. Where others fail, you will excel in an amazing manner ============================================== From the brook church
