Day 23: This morning, I went to Daar Ibn Abbas and was surprised to see the car park nearly full at 2 AM. I was sitting with one of the women and she was telling me about their current mosque fundraiser (for the new place) as the current place is way too small for the amount of people that attend -- among many other factors. She told me her husband was working on the fundraiser and received a donation from someone who had a Christian surname, so just to be sure he didnt accidentally transfer money into the wrong account, they called up the donor and asked him whether he donated the money and whether it was a mistake or not -- if it was a mistake, they were happy to return the funds to him. The man said no, it wasnt a mistake, and yes he was a practicing Christian and yes, it was his intention to donate money to building a mosque. The brothers were gobsmacked. This story warmed the cockles of my heart (whatever that means lol). Its a reminder to me that yes, people of varying faiths have their differences, but when we treat each other like human beings, we have the capacity to be brothers and sisters in humanity.
