Day 25: Wednesday, December 24, 2014 Christmas Eve Henry W. - TopicsExpress

Day 25: Wednesday, December 24, 2014 Christmas Eve Henry W. Longfellow wrote the hymn, I Heard The Bells on Christmas Day. This hymn is not in our United Methodist Hymnal. But I love its words. Especially the following verse: Yet pealed the bells more loud and deep: God is not dead, nor doth he sleep; The wrong shall fail, the right prevail, With peace on earth, good will to men. I get very frustrated at this time of the year. People have warped the meaning of Christmas. Should not the gift by God of His Son Jesus Christ make a difference? Should not there be more peace on earth to go along with the proclamation that the angels made? Has not the world tried to make a mockery of angels? The verse says that God is not dead, nor does God sleep. But there are those today who say that God is not on the job. What? God is on the job, it is people and their choices, their lack faith, the continues to tear down this world. The great British comic, Benny Hill, use to have a graffiti board on his show. Once, in a skit, there was written on the graffiti board this message: God is dead, Fred. Further down on the board there was another message, Fred is dead, God. That to me is simple, and yet to the point. If you do not know God through Jesus Christ, than Christmas is empty, hollow, and you are spiritually dead. If you reject Jesus Christ, then the world wins the battle for your soul, but you lose - you lose your eternal life for all time. Look at the rest of the verse above, The wrong shall fail, the right prevail, with peace on earth, good will to men. Ultimately those who walk with Christ will be victorious and the entire earth will know peace and good will.
