Day 28 of Lent kindness. Bought a card to give to my favorite customer at work. He is an older gentleman in his eighties. He has cancer and his wife recently had a stroke but he doesnt let it get him down. He is always smiling, waving, laughing and hugging. Proof that happiness is not some set of external circumstances, it comes from within and shines out to others. He always brings in his family to introduce to me when they are in town like I am someone important in his life. He also tells me stories about his wife, children, and grandchildren. He told me a story recently about how his wife was reading him the Bible each night at dinner to help with her speech recovery after the stroke. I love picturing that--the two of the them married forever, sitting at the dinner table, reading the Bible. Such a beautiful picture of marriage and what it means to grow old with faith and grace.
