Day 4 of the Name Your Favorite Song Each Day for 5 Days - TopicsExpress

Day 4 of the Name Your Favorite Song Each Day for 5 Days challenge. You simply name your song and then put the YouTube link on. For those who have taken my challenge, thank you very much, and thanks again to Shawn Schroeder for inviting me to take this challenge. The others: Lets get on the ball. Love to hear from you. Im now challenging Sherina Winslow, Brittany Brown and Brad Ward … whats your favorite songs? Its so hard to narrow the list to five songs, because I have so many favorite songs from a variety of genres. Not just country, but many others – pop, soul, even a little rock. But that kind of leads into my pick of a song representing two of those categories: pop and country. The backstory: Once upon a time, in the 1980s, WLLR in the Quad Cities didnt strictly play country music. Many of the recurrents were old pop songs … and not just country songs that also made the pop chart and vice versa. I mean songs from Creedence Clearwater Revival, Roy Orbison, Jim Croce, Bertie Higgins (yes, Key Largo did get quite a bit of airplay … on a country station!) … it wasnt unheard of to hear the England Dan and John Ford Coley-era Dan Seals and Id Really Love to See You Tonight. The list went on. One of the crossover artists that was played back in the day on WLLR was a young female vocalist from Australia who is much like todays Taylor Swift. She originally charted country but her songs were equally as successful on the pop charts, and eventually, she charted only on the pop charts. Today, Taylors doing it with Shake It Off and Blank Space. This artist from the late 1970s and early 1980s did it with songs like Youre the One That I Want and Physical. The song that made Olivia Newton-John a country star from 1973: Let Me Be There. This song I heard all the time back in the day on WLLR, and was one of the many reasons why I enjoy all the songs I do, from straight country to pop and rock. https://youtube/watch?v=rR8hCFfvZPk Sorry to be so lengthy. One more song coming tomorrow to complete the week.
