Day #5 and the final choice in the 5 Day Music Challenge. It wasnt hard to select Pierre Bensusan; the problem was on selecting which piece. I couldnt find my first choice on YouTube. This would be The Town I Loved So Well, from his Près de Paris album... Imagine a French Algerian Jewish DADGAD troubadour with a lisp and an often impenetrable accent singing the Phil Coulter classic about the tragic Northern Ireland agonies. It sounds comic but this is a landmark in the Celtic music tradition and I would urge anybody to hunt it down anyway. But this choice beautifully shows Pierres breathtaking feel and musicianship. He is a genuine genius and a very lovely man. Ive met him and touched him - the last time after a gig at the Railwaymans Arms in Saddleworth over some Guinness. youtu.be/58m9wDsdqQA
