Day four of my Facebook #ArtJewelryChallenge started by Donna - TopicsExpress

Day four of my Facebook #ArtJewelryChallenge started by Donna Greenberg. The rules are simple: post one of your jewellery pieces on your Facebook page, one per day, for 5 days in a row (does not need to be new; can be a design you made in the past) and nominate another artist each day to continue this challenge. Todays pick is the most complex wearable piece I ever created. Inspired by the few surviving examples of medieval girdle books. It includes a single-sheet bound book I fashioned from brass and objects, and sports a chain segment in which the links are carved from a single bar of rock maple. For those able to attend my solo exhibition opening in Pittsburgh in a few days, youll have a rare chance to see it on loan (first time on public view). Wearable book with enclosure: THE DIARY OF AN ANTIQUARY. 2009 Enclosure: 19th-century wooden stereoscope lens housing, brass, fresh water pearls, engraving, unearthed glass, labradorites, steel key, 19th-century book end paper, New Zealand paua shell, steel, mica, 16th-century illuminated manuscript, pressed seaweed, harness element, soil. Chain: Steel, brass, wood. Book: 19th-century book cover fragments, unearthed brass Georgian fork, pocket watch winding crown, pearl, antique ivory, brass, 1920’s and contemporary linen thread, wax, gold leaf, 19th-century book end paper, feathers, 18th & 19th-century engravings, pressed seaweed, cicada wings, striated mica, paper, soil. Chain from enclosure to book: Antique copper-plated steel, brass. Stand: Brass, antique Indian candlestick holder, 1920’s linen thread, wax, velvet, soil. My nominee to post her five is one of my favorite jewellers in the world - I hope shell bite, as shes not very active on FaceBook: Bettina Speckner. Can anyone whos friends with her send her the notice for me?
