De Gea keeps clean sheet in Spain win David De Gea helped Spain get their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign back on track on Sunday with a clean sheet in the 4-0 victory away to Luxembourg. The United goalkeeper started his first ever competitive game for his country in place of Iker Casillas following the Real Madrid stoppers mistake in Spains shock 2-1 defeat against Slovakia on Thursday night. Excellent first-half goals from David Silva and Paco Alcacer put the Spaniards on the way to victory in Luxembourg, with Chelsea striker Diego Costa adding a third after the break – his first goal for Spain - and Juan Bernat netting late on. De Gea performed admirably between the posts despite having little to do for the first 30 minutes of the match. Thereafter he dealt expertly with a host of dangerous crosses into the box and made a good save late on from a deflected effort as Spain ran out deserved winners. Spain manager Vicente Del Bosque says of the goalkeeping situation in his team: I would not like to make a difference between them and the rest of the team. We knew we were going to make some changes and we wanted to have a smooth transition in the goalkeeping position. That means that Iker will facilitate and David will start fitting into the team slowly, as long as both play regularly for their clubs.
