Dear America, For the longest time I thought you were the one. - TopicsExpress

Dear America, For the longest time I thought you were the one. I was taught that above all others, you had the answers, the solution to the ills of the world. Engraved in bronze is a poem that touched my heart and made me proud to be one of the people lucky enough to be born here. Im only quoting the second part here for the sake of relevance. Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp! cries she With silent lips. Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door! I thought for so long that you were the one this was written about, but now I see it differently. The corporation that is Amerika Inc. has no interest in taking care of huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The PEOPLE however, are a different story, and I dont just mean the people born within these imaginary boundaries you call borders. Humanity does yet exist, and the spirit of freedom lives on in each of us. This extends outside of our imagined boundaries to ALL people born on this planet. I want to thank you for bringing the idea of equality through the years from your foundation to the present, but what you represent now... what ALL countries represent now, is a fading dream. Im no better than someone whos born half a mile South of a fence in Texas. Im not better than a person born in North Korea, Russia, China, Iran, or anywhere else your media tells me that I should feel superiourity towards. With the same breathe, Im no less than someone born in any holy land. Im human, and am EQUAL to all other persons born on this magnificent blue orb. That means you Mr Top Dog calling the shots. This also applies to the people sleeping under a bridge tonight because they have nowhere else to go. America, youll go the same way that Rome went, because you thought you were better... you still do. Youre wrong. The PEOPLE of this planet are better. We care for each other, we love each other. Do you care for us? Do you love us? Or do you love your vested interests and those that would tell you what to do more? I think the answer to this is very clear, because actions definitely speak louder than any words you could pay someone to say on TV. Sure, we argue, we squabble, but thats because were different. The only things keeping us from moving past these differences are entities like you, who would rather us feel isolated and separated from the rest of the world. We have it in us to get along. You keep pushing for this not to be allowed. Im sorry America, its not me.. its you. Id wish you well, but I was told many times as a child.. Wish in one hand and shit in the other, and see which one gets full first. Take your flag. Take your pledge. You can have it. I dont need it. I have everything I need already.. the spirit of freedom lives on inside us all, and you no longer have the ground to stand on, upon which to hold this over any of our heads. Sincerely, Joey V, World Citizen
