Dear ECPA Colleagues, We’re writing to update you - TopicsExpress

Dear ECPA Colleagues, We’re writing to update you about some recent events that are happening largely in the U.S., but which can impact all of us involved in community psychology anywhere in the world. The community psychology organization based in the U.S. (SCRA – The Society for Community Research and Action) is drafting a plan to expand online learning in our field. The plan will be finished by late November, and will be followed by steps to implement many of its recommendations. The current President of SCRA, Fabricio Balcazar, is a strong supporter of online learning and has particular interest in webinars and “MOOCs” (large open online courses). Much of this recent effort arises from a roundtable held at the International Community Psychology Conference in Barcelona, in which a number of you participated. In the U.S., the work is now moving from discussion to action. An important element of this plan is global participation and collaboration, both because community psychology is a worldwide field of study, and also because many of you in Europe are doing more advanced online work than most of us in North America. We can certainly learn from you, and from each other. As we move forward, we hope that whatever is done can be a true global effort involving SCRA, ECPA, and other community psychology associations across the world. There is still a lot of work to do, but I believe we are making progress. If you are interested in becoming involved in collaboration around online learning issues, I hope you will let me know. In any case, your comments and suggestions on this issue, of any kind, will be most welcome and appreciated; please send them to me. Online instruction is still new to many of us. Our own view in a nutshell is that we see great potential and great challenges at the same time. As we develop new online initiatives, we want to them to harmonize with our disciplinary values, but also to improve community psychology education and training, and increase the global impact of our field.
