Dear Fellow Allstater, Over the last five years, we have seen weather events of unprecedented frequency and severity. Some of the largest and most powerful tornadoes ever measured struck Oklahoma and Missouri over the last few weeks. The total death toll now stands at 44. The EF5 tornado in Moore, Oklahoma was on the ground for more than 40 minutes, and cut a swath 17 miles long and 1.3 miles wide. The one in El Reno was 2.6 miles wide, the widest on record. In Moore, Agency Owner Jim Wilson had to break the news to a vacationing customer that her house was gone. Where it once stood is an empty lot, filled with debris. It takes a hero to make that call. Allstaters are heroes. In the wake of disaster, we work together as one company. In Missouri and Oklahoma, Catastrophe Response Teams drove door to door to check on customers’ houses. Agency owners put aside their own losses and worked tirelessly to help those affected. Regional and home office employees traveled from across the country to assist customers, support agency owners and help directly. As the victims work to put their lives back together, we will continue to help. Allstate, along with Allstate employees and agency owners and The Allstate Foundation, have pledged $75,000 to the Red Cross and local nonprofits. When I hear the stories of how we have helped and are helping, I burst with pride. Our customers need us most when they experience a disaster, whether it’s a personal disaster like an auto accident or a large-scale catastrophe like the terrible events in Oklahoma. We understand the importance of that personal connection in the face of such devastating loss. Helping people recover and rebuild is what we do. At Allstate, we protect people from life’s uncertainties. We are there to help customers every day, during personal disasters and in difficult times such as this. Working together, we will help customers and communities recover and demonstrate the true meaning of our Good Hands. Tom
