Dear Friends, I am not a ‘Guru’ but a humble teacher by profession. I never had any Gurus, but I was a proud student taught by great teachers. A teachers’ day is perfect for me to remember and honor my teachers. I teach because it helps me learn. The reward for teaching is learning. ‘Guru Utsav’ is a pompous, deeply ideological term for the day of remembrance of the profession of teaching and it invokes religious sectarian concepts and traditions of sharing of wisdom and knowledge. I have studied enough Sanskrit to know all those routine definitions of ‘Guru’ in Hindu mythology and its multiple meanings. So please spare me them. Happy advance Teachers Day wishes to everyone!
