Dear Friends, The Accord Party primaries which held on the 11th - TopicsExpress

Dear Friends, The Accord Party primaries which held on the 11th of December, 2014 were a monumental fraud. I didnt know that a state party chairman could select delegates on his own, admit Bishop Sam Akpan to the party overnight and assign him the partys governorship ticket just like that. And without the man even being eligible to stand for the primaries in the first instance!!! Well, that is what happened. In compliance with all internal procedures, I took up the matter with the partys NWC in Abuja since the 12th of December. The issue is deadlocked. I then approached the Federal High Court to commence proceedings and today, a Writ of Summons has been issued against the Accord Party, Bishop Akpan and INEC. The worst part of this outright misdemeanor is that Bishop Akpan had not even paid for the partys nomination forms and had not been issued with the official receipt which was the requirement to be qualified to stand for the primary elections as at the 11th of December when the primaries were conducted. He only paid and was issued with the partys official receipt on the 16th of December, a clear 5 days after the primaries were held. So, on what basis was he cleared to contest the primaries when, as of that date, I was the only candidate with valid receipt and nomination clearance, having met all the financial requirements? The party hierarchy is now blaming the national officers who went to Uyo and received bribes to commit this infernal act. The Federal High Court will determine Bishop Akpans eligibility to stand for the primaries given his inability to fulfill the conditions precedent. His receipt clearly reads 16th December, 2014. So, how did he manage to win an election in which he ought not to have even been a participant as of the 11th of December when he had not even paid for and acquired the nomination forms and when he had no receipt of payment of the nomination fees to prove his eligibility as is required by the partys eligibility criteria? This is the sort of character that aspires to rule over a new Akwa Ibom State. A Bishop who would engage in such ungodly practices in search for political power. We have come to the end of the road for such shenanigans and for politicians who see nothing good in upholding very basic democratic and honest principles. Unfortunately for this Bishop and his state party chairman accomplice, we are still a nation of rules, procedures and laws. I have written this piece to alert you all to the current state of affairs in my desire to bring truth, honesty and transparency to state administration in Akwa Ibom State. These values are the basic minimum needed to ensure honest and God-fearing leadership in our drive towards the future. I have every confidence that the Federal High Court will resolve this fiasco in favor of the truth and that, together, we will have the opportunity to face our future with hope and confidence. I urge you to hold tight to your dreams, for the time soon comes when your dreams will find honest expression in a state and in a future that truly belong to us all. Happy days lie ahead OKON IYANAM Oyubia Village 17th December, 2014
