Dear Lilian, Last month the Lobbying Bill became law. You and nearly 60,000 other 38 Degrees members wrote to Ed Miliband asking him to pledge to scrap the gagging law if Labour win at the next election. [1] Hes not committed to anything, yet. But Angela Eagle MP, who led Labours opposition to the Bill, has agreed to a meeting to discuss our concerns. Can you come along? Hearing face-to-face from lots of 38 Degrees members could be the final push Labour needs. This is a great chance to put our concerns directly to Angela. As Shadow Leader of the House of Commons, and the Labour MP closest to this new law, it will be her responsibility to convince Ed Miliband to scrap it. The meeting is taking place on Thursday 27th March at 2pm in Central London. There are limited spaces, so if you would like the chance to convince Angela Eagle please RSVP to me on: [email protected] Some of the 38 Degrees staff team, along with lots of other NGOs and charities, went to a meeting in Westminster this week hoping to hear that Labour were ready to commit to repeal the law. Unfortunately they werent. According to Angela Eagle, they are warm to this idea, but no final decision has been made. Facing a room full of passionate 38 Degrees members will prove to Labour that opposition to the gagging law is still as strong as ever. Can you spare some time to come and convince Angela Eagle?
