Dear Muslim Peacemaker Teams (MPT) Thank you for everything you are doing to bring our world closer to peace. We work for peace because we believe that it is only through peace that the sanctity of life can be respected. Life is the most precious, yet also the most vulnerable gift humanity has received. Of course, today our varying religious ideologies dispute the source of that fragile gift, yet nonetheless, all are in agreement that life is to be protected and cherished. Youth leaders, it is with the lives of young men and women that wars are waged. Our bodies are the tools they use to destroy and enslave fellow man, ask yourself if this is the legacy you wish to leave? With history as an indicator we cannot dismiss the fact that the youth are the ones who are innocently paying the price in the brutality of war. We also cannot ignore the role that religion has played in wars, worldwide. National interest, power, and gain are the stakes of war but our goal is not the business of any single nation because peace belongs to everyone, and everyone shares its responsibilities. The World Alliance of Religions, Peace Summit is calling on all youth, to invite your presidents. It is our responsibility to be a voice that supports life and ends wars and at this time, it requires the support of all youth and leaders, including those who govern nations. Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much. You have been invited to the upcoming WARP summit; we ask that you invite your nation’s president to join us. We call on the heads of state of every country to attend, as they govern the nations, and a multitude of religious leaders. With the youth as their witnesses, these leaders, upon returning to their countries, will implement the necessary steps to achieving peace, and with the presidents in agreement as facilitators for this process, world peace will take root. Presidents need to make a commitment to bring all wars to an end, and sign the international peace agreement. We ask them to do this from a spirit of deep-seated love for the people of their country, and we know that as the youth you are the ones who have the power to move them to do so. As those aiming to follow the examples of great peace leaders, sometimes we forget that it is those very examples, the sacrifices of the great, that allow for us to know what is possible when we overcome the insurmountable odds that face us in today’s broken society. We are not political leaders, nor do we speak on a world stage, but for peace that is not a requirement. We simply need to recognize that one requires the help of those like-minded others, to achieve anything worthwhile and lasting. For peace this means your nations participation is vital. Through attending the WARP summit, and ensuring that your presidents also attend, you choose to be part of a united voice that speaks against those who declare war. After watching our video message, and reading this email we hope that our request is clear and that you consider making this your duty in the work towards peace. Here’s what we need you to do: 1. Write a letter to your President, inviting him to the WARP Summit. 2. Record a short, motivational video message based on your letter that will accompany your letter to the president. As a guideline, please include the following in your letter: - A brief introduction of your organization and IPYG - A brief introduction of the World Alliance of Religions, Peace Summit (WARP) - A clear reason for your president to attend WARP (described in our email to you) - Your message and heartfelt request for your president to be a peace leader - Attachment of the 1st Annual Commemoration of Declaration of World Peace Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much!
