Dear RAVEN Family, (passed on, if you desire more info, like registration forms, simply reply to this and I’ll forward everything on to you. J June ) Hello, My name is Christina Chu; I am the assistant to Julio Martinez, the ice sculpting instructor at Ice Alaska. I am writing to you because Ice Alaska would really love to involve students with our activities but I am unsure how to provide this information to homeschool parents (please forgive my ignorance of the homeschool contact hierarchy). Ive provided the necessary information below and have also attached information files. ((reply to me and I’ll forward to you)) Christina Chu Ice Alaska Volunteer ------------------------------- I am writing to you about three ways Ice Alaska would like to involve students with our activities at the park: 1. 2014 Ice Alaska Youth Classic Sculpting Competition: March 17-21 - no cost to students! I wanted to ask if you know any 9th-12th grade students who may be interested in competing in 2014 Ice Alaska Youth Classic Sculpting Competition. Ice Alaska has taken a lot of effort to create an area to display youth artwork and now we are looking to fill it. There is no cost to the students to enter; Ice Alaska will provide the ice and all sculpting tools necessary (although students are encouraged to bring their own tools if they have them). We do ask that the competitors enroll in the advanced ice sculpting class here at the ice park ($75). Upon successful completion of the course and the completion of their piece in the youth classic competion, that $75 will be refunded. In this email, I have attached the rules of the youth competition and the 2 required registration and waiver forms. Students may email the completed signature forms to me at iceopenak@gmail (note we will have to have the original signature page in our offices before the competition) or drop them off at the ice park [office 11: sculptor support]. The sketch form should be brought with the student to the competition preparation meeting on March 17. 2. Ice Sculpting Demonstrations Our instructor is very interested in providing ice sculpting demonstrations to students of all ages. We are happy to host demonstrations at the Ice Park - we have a large selection of tools and larger blocks of ice availible. For demonstrations to smaller groups at the park, we would also be willing to provide each student with their own carved ice sheet to take home. The park has suggested a $15/student fee but we can offer a discounted rate of $10/student. 3. Ice Sculpting Classes These are courses open to the general public and mature young people are certainly welcome. These classes are going to be for small groups of people to offer a personalized ice sculpting experience. The ice park has two class options. For $45, students can take a 4.5 hour course where they would carve a predesigned piece. For $75, students can carve an item of their own design. More details in the schedule of classes document attached in this email.
