Dear Ritinjali Members and Well-wishers, As we have all seen from the last few days’ news reports, the early onset of the monsoon has created a catastrophic situation for the people in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The floods have not only hit the Hill areas but parts of Haryana and Delhi are also affected and many have been displaced from their homes. We still do not know the complete magnitude of the calamity but there is an urgent need to help those who are left without a home and their belongings. Ritinjali is firmly rooted in its philosophy of providing a helping hand wherever needed, in times of immediate crises wherever possible We are collaborating with the Indian Army, which is coordinating the relief effort at Dehradun. Maj Gen(Retd) RS Chand, VSM, a Ritinjali member, will be coordinating the Ritinjali effort with the GOC UK Sub Area in Dehradun. The dispatch of all material collected by Ritinjali will be done by the Army Cell that has been established at the Jolly Grant Airfield. The following items are required: (a) Blankets/ Sleeping bags (b) Dried, nutritious food items that can be easily cooked. All the items must be packed in cartons as they will be delivered through aerial means. Some examples are: • Ready to eat meals • Cartons of Horlicks, Complan, Bournvita, and the likes • Milk powder • Sugar cubes • Tea & coffee sachets • Nuts and dried fruits The donations can be dropped off at the Ritinjali office in Mahipalpur, K-726 Mahipalpur, near Pradeep Timber Store.
