Dear St. Michaels Friend Frances Clark (1966 leaver) has asked me to forward this message to you. I have attended two of the major events at Wintershall. For those of any faith and none it is a great night out especially for the children ( with a flock of sheep and real shepherds; horses ridden by King Herods soldiers and the Three Wise Men; and, donkeys, cattle and other animals for the manger scene). BACKGROUND Wintershall is a beautiful country estate a few miles south of Guildford. For over 20 years it has been producing , on site ,a spectacular Nativity Play (cast of around 70 from diverse backgrounds) on five days before Christmas (in the holidays!). It starts outside, dramatically, in darkness, on a hill overlooking the Surrey countryside with a searchlight picking out two figures and a donkey and following them to the inn. The play later moves inside Holly Barn ( seating several hundred) with the actors, animals and choir for the traditional carols. The script and events have been written and produced by the Estates owner, Mr Peter Hutley, who has received an OBE and the Queens Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of the plays national reputation . LOGISTICS Sound and lighting are managed by professionals and the logistics are carefully monitored and controlled. The production goes ahead regardless of the weather! Coach parties, schools and individuals are welcomed and staff are at hand to ferry those with mobility problems. Refreshments can be purchased at reasonable prices. St John Ambulance is on site for first aid and there are public convenience blocks. The plays proceeds go to the Wintershall Charitable Trust to cover costs and the surplus is distributed to local and worldwide charities. There are DVDs of the production for people to buy if they want. Please contact me if you wish to talk informally or phone the Estate Office direct ( Susan Babbington), 9-5 Mon -Fri. 01483 892167. WEBSITE wintershall-estate See History,Cast and crew etc Booking for the Nativity play starts in September .
