December 12, 2014 -- Well today we ran into a bit of a snag. Gages lab draw this morning still showed a high glucose level. At his appointment with Dr Cannata he was started on regular blood sugar checks and insulin. His first check of the evening was still high and he got insulin. Tonights check was even higher so we consulted the on call doctor. The original thought was to take him to the ER for fluids, but we settled on more insulin and a recheck in an hour. I will keep everyone posted on the results. We also learned that he will have to be on the decadron (steroid) throughout his treatment. We will manage his blood sugar with insulin during his Decadron phases of his treatment. He was not at all excited about getting poked multiple times a day, but then again I dont know too many people who would. We was pretty scared the first time he pricked his finger and his first shot of insulin. Once he realized they didnt hurt or burn like the leg shots he thought he would be alright. He even did his own finger sticks tonight. Other than his recent sugar issue he had a good day at school and has felt well. Prayers are needed to get through this part of his treatment. He is really hoping he doesnt have to go to the ER tonight. Polly & Lionel
