Defiance Gallery in conjunction with the Australian Wildlife Conservancy and Lea and Bill Ferris, are pleased to share a sneak preview of the trailer for SIX ARTISTS | SEVEN DAYS The AWC Mornington Sanctuary Kimberley Exhibition Featuring major works by Elisabeth Cummings, Idris Murphy, Peter Godwin, John Peart, Lucy Culliton, and photographer Jason Capobianco, the exhibition is the culmination of a project that began over a year ago when the six artists spent a week exploring the 320,668 hectares of protected wilderness working closely with scientists from the AWC Mornington Research Centre. AWC is a registered not for profit organisation whose mission is the effective conservation of all Australian animals and their habitats. AWC manages 23 sanctuaries covering over three million hectares across Australia, with 80% of their staff working on the ground to implement conservation programs such as fire management and carry out strategic scientific research to help turn back the tide of extinctions. Each artist has donated a significant work to the AWC. In addition to this, 6-8 smaller works by each artist will be for commercial sale courtesy of King Street Gallery on William, The Hughes Gallery, Watters Gallery and Defiance Gallery. Made with footage shot at the Australian Wildlife Conservancy Mornington Sanctuary in the Kimberley by the acclaimed photographer and filmmaker Jason Capobianco, this short film will be integrated with studio interviews between Sydney Morning Herald art critic, John McDonald, and each of the participating artists. The final feature will be screened at Mary Place, which will also become the venue for a program of talks by scientists to discuss the Kimberley and the work of the AWC and artists’ talks about their work and experiences at the Mornington Sanctuary. The exhibition is a celebration of the Australian landscape and of our continued attempts to see our land from the perspectives of both the artists and the scientist.
