Denise Wade This is Alice and she was caught in discarded fishing line at Wellington Point yesterday. Tightly trussed and patiently awaiting her fate, Alice was spotted by a member of the public and called in to our service. Rescued by Louise and now in care with us, Alices future is uncertain as her prolonged entrapment in fishing line has caused constriction injuries and swelling to her wing. We are often asked why we do this job and I think this beautiful girl communicates it all without a uttering a single sound. She is a quiet girl but her gentle, trusting nature is humbling and it is this trust that gives so many of us the impetus to continue fighting the injustice and cruelty that is being inflicted upon Queenslands flying-foxes. Sure they can be noisy especially at the moment as it is mating season. Yes they do sometimes predate on orchard fruit but only because they are hungry and we have destroyed so much of their habitat, roosting sites and food resources. But where would Queensland be without our iconic and essential forest pollinators?. Sadly, with poor government policy, ongoing habitat destruction, colony persecution and so many other obstacles, their future is most certainly not assured. Bats. Protect them or lose them
