Derrick was admitted to the Vanderbilt Childrens Hospital Pediatric ICU. His MRI is scheduled for 8:30 pm CAT. He is on IV fluids, they did a lot of lab work today, the basics plus hormone levels of all hormones manufactured by the pituitary gland, thyroid function, etc. Tomorrow he has OR time scheduled for placement of a temporary shunt of cerebrospinal fluid. The surgeons may at the same time choose to remove the tumor do a biopsy. We will not know until tomorrow. There is some concern about an increase in the fluid (hydrocephalus) as well as diabetes insipidus and whether these will resolve post-op. He is still in good spirits but disappointed as there is no soccer playing for 3-6 months and some shaving of his hair is likely tomorrow for the shunt placement. Thank you for all your good wishes!
