Did you know?...An arrest is not a determination of guilt. Only the court can make such a determination. However, probable cause must exist before a suspect can be arrested. Probable cause is a higher threshold than reasonable suspicion. Probable cause must be shown before an arrest warrant can be obtained from a Magistrate or Judge. Often due to a several factors, including rules of the court and department policy, law enforcement officers are prohibited from discussing specific elements of a case with the public or media until a suspect has had their day in court. It is always good to remember, innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, not the court of public opinion.
