Did you know that the super school option was never discussed at public meetings during the PARC? It was suggested by a Limestone employee in the last 5 minutes of the final PARC meeting. He was reading what appeared to be a prepared text off his cell phone. Strangely, this option was exactly what the CN Watson consultants recommended be done in 2007. And people ask me why I believe that the whole thing was fixed from the start? PS02 • Consolidation of KCVI and QECVI with a new replacement secondary facility constructed on the QECVI site in 2011/12. • KCVI is the Board’s oldest secondary school constructed in 1915 and is situated on a small 3-acre site. The school is in major need of repair and currently has renewal event costs just under $15.5 million dollars and a FCI of 66.2% (GFA). QECVI was constructed in 1954 and its enrolment is projected to decline by almost -30% during the forecast term. QECVI has almost $13 million in event costs and a FCI of 61.3%. • The recommendation is to construct a new secondary facility on the QECVI site with a permanent capacity of 987 spaces. The new school will be located next to a proposed new elementary facility creating a campus that will be able to offer a full breadth of programs from JK to Grade 12, while still maintaining distinct elementary and secondary facilities. The recommended strategy would create the first new secondary school for the LDSB since 1975 and create a school that is equipped to teach secondary education for students in the 21st century. • As part of the above strategy, the French Immersion program at KCVI will be moved to LCVI. This includes the Module Vanier 7/8 FI program. The English program 7/8’s currently accommodated at LCVI will be returned to Calvin Park Elementary School.
