Dipus 1971 history and a room full of friends Mahtab moderated a very interesting discussion on 1971 at the Hay Festival. The trigger was A Qaiyum Khans book Bittersweet Victory :A freedom Fighters Tale.Published by the UPL, its a great addition to the new generation of books on 1971 that tries to be factual, balanced and not a self-aggrandizing tale. Dipu has tried to bring together all the strands that bind 1971 while he chats on his 1971 experiences as a warrior. For my generation the book is a marvelous gift but I hope the younger ones, also Dipus intended audience, will be able to find the background to enjoy it. But all in all a lovely discussion where we could say so much with honesty and dignity that the topic deserves. Thanks everyone. Two extra points : My friend Chunnu who helped the books birth had two scoops of chocolate ice cream that costs Tk 250. Seriously, in Dhaka.. The trip from Mahakhali to Bangla Academy and back cost only 5 hours of traffic jam.
