Disagreement greets PVC distribution in Kwara The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission, Kwara State office, on Sunday, differed over the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards and the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration. While the Chairman, PDP Kwara State chapter, Mr. Iyiola Oyedepo, said some of INEC officials engaged in unwholesome practices and that the exercise had many flaws, the INEC state spokesperson, Mr. Jacob Ayanda, said the allegations were untrue. Oyedepo said some of the supposed ad hoc staff hired for the exercise were identified as members of the All Progressives Congress. He added that INEC did not deploy enough machines for for the ongoing exercise and that some of the registration equipment were faulty. “The third major problem of the exercise is violence. Both the inadequacy of the registration equipment and poor performance of the machines directly account for crisis and violence usually witnessed at the registration units,” Oyedepo said. He demanded for the extension of the exercise by at least two days and that the identified problems should be addressed. But Ayanda stated that the exercise was a huge success, adding that INEC promptly identified the challenges and had begun to rectify them. He also absolved INEC officials of partisanship and other unwholesome practices. He stated that the commission provided for each polling unit a machine and a backups, adding that if there was any faulty machine, the backups would be used while the faulty one would be repaired. He also said that there was enough security at registration centres, adding that the commission was doing its best to ensure a satisfactory exercise. Copyright PUNCH.
