Disclaimer: Im sufficiently inebriated as the VanRhoes require. Heard an interesting piece of conversation about Melee tonight that left me thinking. Someone made a remark about someone else slipping shots, but instead of calling their personal honor into question they made a remark about the team their on. I find it strange that faction rivalry supersedes personal honor in these sorts of situations. To me this feels like a clear sign that the faction system and rivalries it creates at melee has grown unhealthy. If logic has been thrown aside so much, that people instead blame the actions of an individual on their team as a whole. In any foam-fighting sport Honor is about self-accountability in combat to ensure we all equally have a good time, instead of at someones expense. Some shot slipping will happen regardless, but blatantly doing it is selfish and a violation of the silent social contract we all agree to when we take the field. Your Honor has nothing to do with the team your on, it is simply your personal ability to adhere to the rules and ensure the overall wellness of your sport. So be careful of the cancer that your will to win may inadvertently be spreading in your sport. Just my drunken thoughts on the subject. This is not addressed at anyone specifically, but rather an objective observation I gleamed from my recent interaction with Melee folk.
