Discussing the Younkers building via email with my Mother this morning....these were her thoughts. I am sure there are thousands of other beautiful memories like this. Please share if you have some; It is sad. Daddy and I were just thinking of all the wonderful times we went to the city. Mother took Linda and me and David to the city before we went to Calif. and bought us both our Madame Alexander dolls and than took us to the movie 20 thousand leagues under the sea. Whenever we went to the city mother would always stop at a little white church somewhere between Indianola and Des Moines I think and change our clothes. Always black patent shoes gloves and a hat. Mother had a beautiful navy blue suit and a delicate pink blouse with her hat with the netting over her eyes. Her hair soft and a tinge of red. Mother liked her hair with a soft touch of red. She was beautiful. Daddy would meet us and once took us to a movie with Tony Curtis. Not sure name of movie but he played the piano (Claire delune-something like that) always took us to the drug store that had a huge cat on the roof and bought me lime sherbet in a fancy dish.. Gave me that beautiful poetry book 1954. Going to the city was always a trip to Younkers. The windows were always beautifully dressed. Very sad day!
