Distant Cuzins, a local rock band comprised of five Oregon High School students, has been selected as the wild card band to compete in the WSMA Launchpad State competition. OHS orchestra teacher, Leyla Sanyer sponsored the Distant Cuzins Launchpad application. Launchpad is a music competition for high school students who are in bands formed outside of school. Each year, bands from all over Wisconsin submit audio recordings of three songs for consideration. Up to sixty bands are selected to compete in the four regional competitions. The top three finalists from each region and one wild card band who receives the highest score on Broadjam then compete for the grand prize: the prestigious Les Paul Launchpad Award, free studio recording time at Blast House Studios in Madison, a 2014 Milwaukee Summerfest appearance, and $5000 worth of Yamaha equipment donated to their school music program. The state competition will be held on June 7 at The Sett in Union South at 1308 W Dayton St, Madison, WI 53706. Distant Cuzins plays at 2:20pm and they would love to have supporters from Oregon there! Distant Cuzins band members are Sam Miess on guitar, Nic Tierman on vocals Nate Krause on guitar, Ben Lokuta on drums, and Beryl Miess on bass.
