Do we still have conductors on our kombis. Is it illegal to have - TopicsExpress

Do we still have conductors on our kombis. Is it illegal to have someone open the door and shout Budiriro...town yese or Luveve via D-square. Is a kombi conductor called a tout...what does our law say regarding the windis? Someone please shed more light. On my way to church this sunday, about 5 plain cloth policemen disguised themselves as prospective passengers waved to signal an intention to board a kombi to Cowdray Park (Bulawayo). The conductor opened the door and called Cowdray Park...and indeed they nodded ...on approaching the door, they quickly nabbed the young men and handcuffed him...and told the driver to bring a fine to the police station allegedly for touting. This very scenario happened to the other two kombis that had stopped to compete for the customers. I have always disliked the conduct of the kombi conductors (windis) and have always wished their job titles could be done away with in our public transport. On the other hand I felt for the young men who looked barely 18 being whisked away handcuffed. Although we completed the journey, the driver had to stop and open the door himself...mind you it was malfunctioning (a tendency with most kombies). Let us discuss
