Do you have an interest in serving your community? If the answer is yes, we have some good news for you. We continue to accept applications for those interested in becoming a Community Board member, and we want to ensure that each Community Board features a diverse array of perspectives and opinions. There are three Community Boards on Staten Island. These advisory bodies deal with a myriad of issues, including: • Dealing with land use and zoning issues. Community Boards have an important advisory role in many land use matters. • Assessing the needs of their own neighborhoods. Community Boards assess the needs of their community members and meet with City agencies to make recommendations in the Citys budget process. • Addressing other community concerns. Any issue that affects part or all of a community, from a traffic problem to quality of life issues is a proper concern of community boards. Those who are appointed to their local Community Board will serve for a two-year term. The position is a volunteer one. Members are expected to attend the one meeting each month as well as committee meetings as assigned for a total of up to three evening meetings a month. If you are interested in serving, please submit an application, which can be accessed here: statenislandusa/uploads/1/0/9/1/10915079/community_board_application.pdf. If you have any questions, please contact Marie Carmody-LaFrancesca at mlafrancesca@statenislandusa or via phone at 718-816-2141. Please submit your completed application to us by June 2.
