Doing media promotion on the FBC Student Peace Leadership - TopicsExpress

Doing media promotion on the FBC Student Peace Leadership Dialogue Initiative at Star Radio in Sierra Leone. Comments from callers and text messages undeniably noted the meticulous interference of national politics in student politics. A major factor they (callers and text messages) say is severing student solidarity for development on the Fourah Bay College campus. Other comments also made mention of ideological war among students as another impediment to a unified student body at FBC. Overall these factors have meandered the goodwill of most students and propped up violence during previous student union elections held on FBC campus. As the common cliche say variety is the spice of life, we cannot do much than accept the reality that we all cannot be in the same place at the same time. In this case, national politics will always be a part of student politics and students are always going to have different ideologies that differentiates them in their own eyes. The very structure of in-groups and out- groups, intellectual rivalries, and the we vs them, no matter how bad it gets sometimes are what make college expereince distinct and unique. However one thing that should be paramount is the need for students to show compromise for the sake of peace and development on the FBC campus especially during student union elections. If only students leaders irrespective of their ideological conceptions and national political affiliations can have a well meaning conversation on their roles in promoting PEACE and DEVELOPMENT on the FBC campus, then FBC will be on its way to reclaim its place among the best colleges in the sub region. Students will have a robust student leadership body that will work with the administration of the college to identify areas in the college that will need improvement. More so , Students will speak with a unified voice in advocating to the central government and other sponsors for the development of FBC...and many other good things will be bound to happen at FBC . Since many students have not seen uniting as the raison detre for peace and development at FBC, a good number of others we have spoken to at FBC yearn for a unified student body that works with the administration for academic, social, infrastructure and technological advancements on the FBC campus that are synchronous with the 21st century. For the sake of those students who support peace and development at FBC especially during student union elections and even afterwards, the FBC student Pace Leadership Dialogue Initiative seeks to initiate peace dialogue among students on the FBC campus. We believe that through dialogue many ideological and political barriers will be broken and a platform where students will be able to see themselves as well meaning citizens of the FBC will be installed. It is only through constant peace dialogue that students can have a better understanding and respect for their differences and overall unite for a common purpose of development at the Fourah Bay College. Its time for we as students to become the development we want to see at FBC by becoming flexible, receptive and open to progress and positive innovative leadership at FBC. some of the ideologies we still sacredly hold, protect and allow to divide us are long overdue for a revise and rightly deserve a contemporary embellishment!
