Don from Memory Delight wrote: Hey its Don here again for another faith-building story. A young minister was given a challenge by the local prison warden. He was to help in rehabilitating 100 inmates with different issues. Confirming his safety, he initiated a Bible study inside the prison. Each inmate was given a brand new leather Bible. They have not received a gift like this in a long time. This young minister helped them studied the Bible, prayed with them, and heard their stories. Year after year, they saw a great change with the inmates. They became peaceful, concerned for one another, and, get this, prayed for each other. Every end of a Bible study or worship service, these inmates have a battle cry: “This is my Bible. It is a lamp to my feet.” Sounds familiar? That was taken from Psalm 119:105. “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” Though these inmates were imprisoned in cold steel bars, their spirits were free through the saving grace of Jesus Christ. As they opened their Bibles, they read every verse as a man would eat food. Every bite was a delicacy. Though this time, it was not to fill their stomachs but their souls. Their Bible was their constant companion. It was the lamp to guide them through their darkest times. It was the one to lead them towards good things especially when the path to evil is easier. To declare Psalm 119:105 was not just memorized but truly part of their life. The Bible. Not merely words on a page. But Words of Life. That’s why there’s a power in memorizing God’s Word. Now is the time to Gods word more seriously.
