Don is home from the hospital. What a long 2 days this has been. According to his heart Dr. his stress test results havent changed since his last one in 2011 I think AND they gave NO reason for this episode, but through a bunch of research, I think I know what happened. Monday morning around 11am he went to his orthopedic Dr for results from a scan they did on his knee, besides the Rheumatoid arthritis that is attacking them he has a torn ligament on the back of his knee which he told Don MAY heal on its own. So he gave Don a cortisone injection and said come back in a month and well see if its improved any. If not then he said hed do an arthroscopy on it. Now, when he was a lot younger he had the shots in his elbow that he crushed doing drop push-ups in gym. Its pretty much bone rubbing on bone in there now, but the shots never bothered him and eased the pain. Well, at around 10:30 pm that night he went to go upstairs to his computer/ham radio room when it hit. He called for me and said I think something is wrong, he made it over to his lift chair sweating profusely, with pain in his chest and center back and jaws. I tired to get him to regulate his breathing, checked his pulse rate a few times and it was always above 120 and last time was 130. He was shaking and in pain and breathing rapidly so I asked if he wanted me to call 911 and he said yeah, you better, just in case. They came in about 5 minutes and got him on oxygen and headed to the hospital with me actually beating them there...LOL. (I went the short way) They had him hooked to the EKG machine and 2 different Drs. checked him out and decided to keep him. By the time they got him to his room and settled in and settled down it was 3:30 and I decided to go home and come back in the AM since they were going to monitor him and try to get his sugar levels down from well over 300 as well as his blood pressure was high and his blood was showing a rise in heart enzymes.(sign of heart attack they check every 6 hours) Well, on Wednesday I had to go to work and I started talking to this older lady about Don and the noisy screaming crying kids that were in the hospital Tuesday night visiting some patient down the hall and told her I thought that maybe the cortisone shot was the culprit since he had been fine all this time. Well, wouldnt you know,(Yah is wonderful) she was a retired nurse at the hospital and said that that cortisone shot spiked his blood sugar!!! She said a lot of people have that problem with the spiked blood sugar and cortisone shots. (and by the way, NONE of the Drs or nurses ever heard anything about it when we mentioned it) She said in turn THAT would affect his heart rate !! Well, Wednesday night after I got home from work and the hospital I started researching it and there are TONS of people with THIS very problem and the Drs arent saying a WORD about it to them !!!! Seeing as how he is diabetic and NEVER was till he had open heart bypass surgery(another thing Drs. wont tell you about till AFTER youve had open-heart and start having troubles with it) this cortisone shot seems to have started a chain reaction in him. I just wanted to let all you wonderful, caring and concerned friends, family and Mishpacha about it :)
