Douglas Legacy Farm seems like a sad place to be today. After - TopicsExpress

Douglas Legacy Farm seems like a sad place to be today. After all, in less than 21 days, this family of horses (Gator Chaser, Beauty, BNDs Best, Tanner, Shilo, Dyna, Dasher, Tylers Late Date, Easys Escort) will be going through yet another life change. Gator is the first one to spot me coming to the barn. He always whinnies for me and has come to love and trust me for this past year while we rehabbed him from a bad situation last fall. His head is up and he is alert and regal-looking, anticipating his yummy grain. Dasher peeks her head out of the shed, not wishing to miss even one second of her feeding time. Slowly they all appear - Dyna is next, followed by Tyler and Easy. There you go, Easy I say as I escort her into the barn for her own senior feed, soaked. Tanner emerges from the shed in his 17 hand fashion, booting everyone else out of the feed pans as he comes closer. Shilo hangs in the wings, and I personally deliver her dish of food to her in the pole shed so she can also eat in peace. So it has gone, for so many months. Tears well up in my eyes as I take respite from hours on the computer, answering questions about horses available for adoption. Despite my optimism that someone will step forward to help the older, less sound horses, I know deep in my heart that many will have to come back to the ASAP farm, truly unwanted. So many emails - Do you have any sound, healthy, beginner horses less than 10 years old? My heart sinks. I would pray for the emails to pour in that would say, How can we help? What is your greatest need? We will take anything that needs us. Yet, that is impractical to believe in todays economy. Even if people stepped up, how easy would it be to let Shilo, Easy, Tyler, or Ben go? They are all so.........vulnerable........trusting.......and ASAP is ultimately responsible for their well being and happiness. Do we just toss them about like objects to avoid having an overload of horses at the ASAP farm? Or do we faithfully and lovingly serve, and hope for the donations to cover expenses? At the ASAP farm we have a host of more unwanteds - horses with old injuries that deem them unadoptable. ARNE, Bob Cook, Holly, Brandy, Remmie.....and the old horses such as Lakehills Texas, Janimal, Jewel, Brandy, and now an older Chief, and Taser Gun. Are their lives any less valuable because they arent perfect? So what is the answer? Am I too sensitive? I dread the upcoming transition, and honestly do not know how it will all play out. Help is what we need - the right kind of help - the right kind of love - the right kind of selflessness and generosity...............hopefully hearts will be opened and someone will come forward to say, How can I help? Anything.....just let me know.
