During my nap today I dreamed I was on a plane that ran out of fuel just short of the destination airport. I remained remarkably calm in the eerie, foreboding quiet that preceded our rapid and tumultuous descent. Ive always thought thats exactly how Id be in such a circumstance. Resolved. Resigned. I linked arms with the woman next to me and told her to grasp me tightly and not be afraid, adding, Our lives have been full and will get richer still when we get out of this. Only the first part of that declaration felt true, but it didnt matter. No wants to be alone, crippled by hopelessness and fear, in the end. We didnt make it. I dont place much significance in the meanings of dreams and I wouldnt know how to interpret this one if I did. But when I awoke, I couldnt stop thinking about the first part of what would be my last words. I have lived a full life, actually. Its easy to forget that. And the gratitude that comes with it.
