During the year, many Saturdays in Burundi are marked by the ‘travaux communautaire’, community works. These works are voluntarily and involve Burundian communities to help each other and join forces to foster development. Previous Saturday, the Dutch ambassador was invited by the National Ombudsman to work alongside the community to repair a sand road. Together with the Chinese ambassador and the National ombudsman, bricks and sand were scooped in wheelbarrows to polish the road. Sometimes you have to put one’s shoulder to the wheel and contribute in the most practical manner. Nice weather and even music were present, making it a nice start of the weekend.
