Dutch queen eats noodles, discusses finance with China’s “not-so-rich” In a small rural restaurant on the outskirts of Beijing, Queen Maxima of the #Netherlands was seen watching a middle-aged woman making handmade noodles on Thursday. However, the queen’s interest was less on her bowl than in how the restaurateur had expanded her business with a bank loan of 15,000 yuan, and how she planned to repay the debt. The field trip came amid Queen Maxima’s four-day visit to #Beijing from November 24 to 28, in an effort to improve access to financial services for small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), and the rural poor in China. In an address on inclusive finance at #PekingUniversity, the Dutch Royal said her goal is to help low-income households and small-scale businesses gain access to basic financial services. She added that there has been a lack of proper financial services for the needy, who normally have to bear higher costs when applying for such services.
