EC Hillel Board Elections Dear Eckerd Jewish Students, We are about to hold our first campus wide election for the Student Board of Eckerd College Hillel. As Jewish life on campus continues to grow, this process is intended to allow everyone who would like a leadership role the opportunity to get involved. All Board Positions are listed below along with their responsibilities. If you would like to run for any of the positions, please submit a Letter of Intent stating why you feel you would be the best person for the position, and how you can contribute to the growth and improvement of Jewish life at Eckerd College. Letters of intent should be sent to Rabbi Ed at [email protected]. The deadline for submitting a letter of intent is Sunday, March 9th at 6:00pm. On Tuesday, March 11th, all letters of intent will be posted on the EC Hillel Facebook Page and sent out via the EC Hillel listserve. On March 17th an election ballot will be sent to everyone on the EC Hillel listserve. Anyone with an eckerd.edu email address is eligible to vote. Election results will be posted on Friday, March 21st just before Spring Break. ---------------------------------------------------- Eckerd College Hillel Student Board Position Descriptions* Executive Board Positions President 1: Responsible for developing and implementing a long-term vision for Jewish life on the Eckerd College campus, in conjunction with the Campus Rabbi. 2: Oversees Hillel Student Board and student-empowered Jewish life on campus. 3: Prepares the agenda for weekly Board meetings 4: Chairs weekly Student Board meetings. 5: Meet regularly with student board chairs of Hillel Affiliate Groups (Scubi Jew and Tamid) to discuss initiatives and activities of their groups. 6: Serves as a member on the Board of Directors of the Hillels of the Florida Suncoast representing Eckerd College and ensures students voices are heard by parents, alumni, and friends of Eckerd College Hillel. 7: Attend weekly Executive Board Meeting. Vice-President 1: Fulfills duties of President when s/he is unavailable. 2: Meet regularly with student board chairs (Israel Awareness, SATO, Jewish Life, and Engagement) to discuss initiatives within their areas. 3: Attend Weekly Executive Board Meeting Treasurer 1: Manages the Eckerd College Hillel budget and funds allocated by ECOS and Suncoast Hillels. 2: Responsible for submitting all financial reports to ECOS and presenting to Student Government in order to receive ECOS funding for the coming year. 3: Looks for outside funding sources in order to expand Eckerd College Hillels budget and program offerings. 4: Works with Campus Rabbi to write grant requests when applicable. 5: Attend Weekly Executive Board Meeting. Secretary/Communications 1: Responsible for keeping minutes at EC Hillel Student Board meetings and distributing minutes after the meeting to Board members. 2: Responsible for creating and sending EC Hillel Happenings Newsletter to students each week, or as programs dictate. 3: Responsible for managing EC Hillel Alias Account and using email to communicate appropriate messages to students as needed. 4: Attend Weekly Executive Board Meeting. General Board Positions Chair of Jewish Life 1: Responsible for fostering Jewish religious and spiritual life at Eckerd College through activities, education opportunities. 2: Coordinates all holiday and Shabbat programs, in conjunction with the Campus Rabbi. 3: Chairs the Shabbat & Holiday Committee, a group of students interested in Shabbat and holiday programming at Eckerd College, responsible for cultivating and bettering the Eckerd Shabbat & holiday experience. 4: Responsible to organize, convene and facilitate a weekly (or bi- weekly) meeting of the Shabbat & Holiday Committee as needed. Chair of Social Action/Tikkun Olam (SATO) 1: Responsible for the development and awareness of Tzedek, Jewish social justice, at Eckerd College through activities and educational opportunities. 2: Responsible for the implementation of 1-2 initiatives relevant to social justice awareness that will impact the campuss Jewish community and the campus community in general (this may include, but is not limited to, awareness campaigns, activism, advocacy, service projects or alternative break opportunities). 3: Chairs a committee relevant to and responsible for implementing each of the SATO initiatives. 4: Responsible to organize, convene and facilitate a weekly (or bi- weekly) meeting of the SATO Committee as needed. Chair of Israel Awareness 1: Responsible for Israel education and awareness on the Eckerd College Campus through activities and educational opportunities. Responsible for the implementation of 1-2 initiatives relevant to Israel (political, cultural, historical, etc.) that will impact the campus Jewish community and the campus community in general this may include, but is not limited to, awareness campaigns, Yom HaAtzmaut, speakers, movies and Birthright Recruitment). 2: Chairs a committee relevant to and responsible for implementing each of the Israel initiatives. 3: Responsible for follow-through with Birthright participants, in conjunction with Campus Rabbi. 4: Responsible to organize, convene and facilitate a weekly (or bi- weekly) meeting of the Israel Awareness Committee as needed. Chair of Engagement 1: Coordinates with Campus Rabbi to create engagement initiatives throughout the year, with the aim of reaching unengaged Jewish students on campus. 2: Responsible for coordinating with the Admissions Department letters, email or telephone calls to admitted students between February and May. 3: Responsible for organizing communication with accepted students during the summer before they arrive on campus for Autumn 4: Term to let them know about Hillel activities and how they can get involved. 5: Work with the Campus Rabbi to plan Shabbat and programs for incoming freshmen during Autumn Term. Chair of Social Activities 1: Responsible for organizing and facilitating a wide range of social activities. *All Board Members are expected to serve on the Shabbat Committee.
