EVA System (Standard Cutter at 8,000/cpm ; TDC Cutters at 16,000/cpm) Later in 2014, we anticipate the introduction of the EVA system from Dutch Ophthalmics (DORC), which has been available in Europe since late 2012. The EVA will be a new offering to the existing DORC Associate vitrec- tomy platform (not reviewed in this article). Similar to the Stellaris PC and Constellation, the EVA is another full-featured comprehensive anterior segment and posterior segment ophthalmic surgery system. In addition to serving as a phacoemulsification system for anterior segment surgeons, this same unit provides state-of-the-art vitrectomy technology with an industry-leading 8000 cpm across 23-, 25-, and 27-gauge cannula offerings. It achieves maximum vacuum of 680 mm Hg through both a Venturi and peristal- tic approach. Dual-linear control provides surgeons with a versatile array of vitreous removal approaches. In addition to a single cut function, linear and 3D cutting settings are also available. The EVA achieves infusion with VFGI, however the company has said that gravity pole with infusion compensa- tion will be an option on this platform. The EVA includes an integrated laser and integrated tunable (white to yellow) LED light source. Similar to the Stellaris PC, the machine is con- trolled by a multifunction, programmable, wireless foot pedal. The EVA has an award-winning design and a footprint similar to the Stellaris PC and Constellation with a large touch screen with graphical user interface. Reportedly, the EVA will have a competitive price point for the device and packs. In this respect, this full-featured machine will likely garner more than a niche following in the United States.
