EVENING MEAL! PRAISING GOD WITH UNDERSTANDING MEMORY VERSE: Psalm 47:7 For God is the King of all the earth; Sing praises with understanding. A gift is of little value if it is not to the recipient’s liking. Thus, praise is not about what you think is right but about what God desires. It is therefore imperative that we praise God with understanding. 2 Chron 29:30 Moreover King Hezekiah and the leaders commanded the Levites to sing praise to the Lord with the words of David and of Asaph the seer. So they sang praises with gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshiped. King Hezekiah realized that the excitement of praise was not as important as the content and the motive. He knew that David was one person who understood the subject of praise; he lavished it on God and the results are still evident today. 2 Sam 6:21 So David said to Michal, “ It was before the Lord, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the Lord. David’s motive was not to show off his dance steps but to glorify God with abandon. To praise God with understanding, your motive must be right and you must praise Him as He desires to be praised. How does He desire to be praised? Psalm 47:7 …Sing praise with a shout of triumph. Your praise should be accompanied by loud shouts of triumph. Out with the pious, solemn praises and in with shouts of triumph. God wants our praises to be dynamic not stereotypical. Praise God in your dialect, praise Him in tongues, praise Him regardless of where you are! When you do this, heaven will come over you directly. PRAYER: Lord help me praise You in a manner acceptable to You in Jesus’ name. FURTHER READING: Psalm 33:3
