EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH THIS VIDEO, IT REALLY OPENS YOUR EYE!! It has occurred to me that what is said in this amazing speech also refers to the feather industry, as most of us dancers rely on these products in our performances. There is debate on how the ostrich feather is harvested 1 being after the bird is killed the other is live plucking. Either way in my mind many years ago I had believed they had fallen off the bird when molting. This is not the case and they arent harvested either as some would ague , maybe in some countries but the bulk of this industry is in Africa and China and we all no what type of rights animals have in China. In my 20 years of using feather products I have never purchased feathers that had the ends clipped only in full tact. So its not just eggs and farm animals we imagine living a nice life on a farm like in the movie Babe or what companys have marketed it to us to believe, this also speaks for the feather industry. sfglobe/?id=922&src=share_fb_new_922 I still wear the feather costumes I own but I am trying to faze them out and replace the animal products with non. If anyone knows any first hand facts from experience about the farming and harvesting of ostrich feather can you please comment below. I am not interested in reading blogs or stories as most are from research from the internet not first hand facts.
