Earlier this past week Rose Kardos, my fathers first cousin, - TopicsExpress

Earlier this past week Rose Kardos, my fathers first cousin, passed away in Florida. She was in her early 90s and had been in poor health for a time, so her passing was not a shocking surprise. The funeral was held in Queens, NY today, December 1, and she was interred in a cemetery along the Queens-Brooklyn border. Although I wasnt personally close to Rose, I grew up with her, aware of her, and aware of her husband (who preceded her in death) and her son (who survives her). With her passing the extended family loses another member of the holocaust survivor generation whose lives straddled the worlds of Hungary-Israel-America, whose perceptions and memories and outlooks were steeped in the way those worlds met and were joined. We, their children, are in their debt in innumerable ways. (I thank my sister, who attended the funeral, for filling me in on the details of todays events.)
