Earlier today, Channel 5 Memphis solicited comment from their Facebook audience regarding a shooting that had taken place—asking what the readers would have done had this workplace violence occurred where they worked. There were many reactions ranging from hiding under desks or fleeing to standing and shooting it out with the perp. One miscreant decided to take the general population of commentators to task for what he deemed was their unforgivable ignorance and poor grammar. Here is what he wrote: Name withheld--“People, learn grammar and spelling! I know this is Memphis and its filled with idiots, but you could at least try to appear more educated than you are.” I decided that since he wanted to play this card, that at least it should be a two-handed game—so I replied: Rich Mumm—“Neal, As long as were being such sticklers for grammatical virtuosity, Id check that but you could at least try to appear... monstrosity at the door. Maybe your local secondary schools neglected to give you the proper forms for that construct. Here, let me help you: ...at least you could try to appear... Now, doesnt that work better? No, please, dont thank me. It was my pleasure, I assure you.” I haven’t heard back from him since. :)
