Ecclesiastes 3:19-21 KJV (19) For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. (20) All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again. (21) Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth? STATE OF THE DEAD WHAT IS THE STATE OF THE DEAD? This is a question that many people have asked. We notice that even Job asked this same question in the Bible, and we will even find the answer to this question in the Bible. We will find the question in: JOB 14:10: But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he? (Let us now seek the answer from the Word of God.) JOB 14:12-14: So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep. 13- Oh that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me! 14- If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come. JOB 17:13: If I wait, the grave is mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness. JOB 14:15- Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou shalt have a desire to the work of thine hands. (We notice in verses 13 and 14 of Job 14, that man would be hid in the grave, and kept secret. We also notice that there is a set, appointed, waiting time till man’s change comes. Let us see when this appointed time will be.) Let us turn to: JOHN 5:28,29: Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29- And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. ( We Notice in verse 28 that the hour is coming (future) (appointed time), in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,… JOB 19:25-27: For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: 26- And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: 27- Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me. (We notice that verse 25 gives some indication that the redeemer shall stand at the latter day upon the earth – last day, notice: not latter days. He also mentions that although his body is decayed, yet will he see Him with his own eyes. All the days of their appointed time that they wait in the grave, what do they know when they are dead? Let us see) ECCLESIASTES 9:5,6: For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 6- Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun. (Notice: For ever is a duration of time. If someone gave you a pen, and you asked for how long could you have it, and the person says you may have it for ever, does the pen last for ever? So we see for ever is a duration of time - The hour which is coming.) PSALM 6:5: For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks? 1 KINGS 2:1,2: NOW the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying, 2- I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and shew thyself a man; (We notice that David’s time drew near that he should die, and he told Solomon his son, that he is going the way of all the earth. We all know that David was a true child of God, and if anybody should be in heaven, it would be him, remembering that he was going the way of all the earth, let us see where he is NOW:) ACTS 2:29,34,35: Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. (sepulchre = grave) 34- For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 35- Until I make thy foes thy footstool. (Until = duration of time) and when this comes to pass, what will happen then? ) Let us go to: 1 THESSALONIANS 4:16,17: Then: For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17- Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. (And even so shall the resurrection be.) ECCLESIASTES 3:19,20: For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that man hath no preeminence above the beast: for all is vanity. 20- All go to one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
