Edgar Lungu Holds EU Talks Patriotic Front president Edgar Lungu this morning met with the European Union representatives to loop them in his plan should he win the January 20 presidential elections. Lungu said he would stick to late President Michael Sata’s vision until the 2016 general elections when there would be an opportunity for a fresh start. He said there would be no disruption of government business if the Patriotic Front won the elections. “If we win, we will follow the same policies that were left by President Sata because there is little time even if we wanted to,” Lungu said. “As you know there will be a general election again next year where people will have to choose again who they want to lead them for a full term.” The EU delegation was led by head of delegation Gilles Hervio who was joined by his British, Finnish, Swedish and Italian counterparts. PF PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE EDGAR LUNGU MEETS E.U DIPLOMATS; PF President Edgar C Lungu has today assured the EU ambassadors based in the capital, Lusaka that foreign investment shall remain secure in Zambia after the 20th January Presidential poll which he is confident of winning. Hon. Lungu who is also the Minister of Defence and Minister of Justice gave the EU diplomats the assurance when he answered a breakfast call extended by EU delegation leader Gilles Hervio, making him the only Presidential candidate the diplomats have met just days away from the poll. Hon. Lungu also made the following points to the diplomats during the hour long meeting: • Dialogue between foreign investors, especially mining owners shall continue so that both Zambia and the investors can reach a “win-win” point • Security and the rule of the law, including good governance shall be sustained • Infrastructure construction of roads shall continue with priority being given to areas of production such as agriculture, and mining areas of Zambia • The anti-graft fight shall be stepped up and no abuse of public resources shall be tolerated in order to ensure that scarce resources reached the intended targets of vulnerable Zambians • Unity shall be encouraged as hon. Lungu embraces both opposition and ruling party members so that Zambia’s peace can be maintained and the PF as a party can be further strengthened. • Crop and economic diversification shall be encouraged under him so that the economy can grow beyond the current rate in order to reduce poverty and increase job creation Hon. Lungu expressed confidence that he would win the 20th January poll based on the “massive” infrastructure roll-out the PF has embarked upon since it took over government in 2011, and also largely based on the “overwhelming support “he had received within and outside the party. Hon. Lungu wants to maintain Zambia’s peace and show greater “regional and even continental leadership” once he becomes the sixth President of Zambia. The EU delegates said they were grateful that hon. Lungu was able to take time of his busy schedule to discuss with them, “matters of national importance as corporating partners.” Hon. Lungu is today set to hold three campaign rallies in Chongwe, Rufunsa and Kafue after a successful ran in Eastern Province were his campaign team was boosted by former President Rupiah Banda. He stressed that continued stability is very important to him and the PF. Signed: Edgar Lungu, PF Media Team zambiareports/2015/01/09/edgar-lungu-holds-eu-talks/
