Educate the larger African American and Latino communities, in particular, and communities of color in general, about dyslexia; Mobilize a public awareness (grassroots) effort to engage educators, legislators, policy makers, scholars, and philanthropist[sic], to impact policy; and Connect dyslexics to resources in their communities. The group is also advocating for educators to change the way they teach children with dyslexia. They want educators to use teaching techniques that emphasize spoken rather than written words. The changes the group wants are important as dyslexic students who get the right help and accommodations are able to succeed at school reports Sally Shaywitz.
